Hiroshima
Now defined by its history, Hiroshima once suffered one of the worst human atrocities on the planet. Yet the city is living proof of the resolve and dedication of the Japanese people, revitalizing itself and recovering from its past, both emotionally and physically. Alongside the city itself, Hiroshima holds Itsukushima Island, home to the Itsukushima Shrine and Daishoin Temple. The city's history leaves a heavy impression upon visitors, but is vital to understand and reflect.
